Advertising policy

Updated 1 October 2026. Kleven may consider carefully selected advertising or sponsorship that is relevant to readers and compatible with our editorial standards. Advertising is not a medical endorsement and cannot change an editorial conclusion. For example, a wellness product company may purchase a labelled placement on an article about sleep without that placement implying Kleven's editorial team has personally evaluated or recommended the product. This policy applies to any commercial material appearing on the Kleven site, including banner-style placements, sponsored feature articles, and affiliate links, and it should be read alongside the editorial policy, which governs how independent articles are written and reviewed separately from commercial content. Any advertiser engaging with Kleven is expected to review and accept these terms before a placement is confirmed. Where this policy and a signed commercial agreement appear to conflict on a specific point, the stricter standard protecting reader trust and legal compliance applies.

1. Labelling

Paid placements, sponsored features, affiliate relationships, and other commercial material will be identified in clear language near the content. Readers should be able to distinguish an advertisement from an independent article without guessing. For example, a sponsored feature carries a visible label such as "Sponsored content" positioned near the headline, in a size and contrast comparable to the surrounding text rather than faded or hidden in small print. An affiliate link, where a purchase made through the link may generate a commission for Kleven, is disclosed within or immediately near the relevant paragraph rather than buried in a footer reference far from the link itself. We do not use design techniques intended to make a paid placement resemble our standard article template so closely that a reasonable reader could mistake one for the other. Labelling conventions are applied consistently across the homepage, article pages, and any resource listing, so a returning reader learns to recognise the pattern quickly.

2. Prohibited claims

We do not accept claims that promise guaranteed results, cures, instant transformation, or superiority without a fair basis. We reject fear-based pressure, limited-time urgency, body shaming, and language that encourages readers to ignore qualified care. For example, proposed advertising copy stating a product will "guarantee" a specific result, or that supplies are available only for a short, arbitrary window to pressure an immediate purchase, would be declined under this policy regardless of the advertiser's size or budget. We also decline comparative claims that a product is "the best" or "number one" without a verifiable, fairly presented basis, since such claims are difficult for a reader to independently confirm. Advertising copy implying that a reader should stop or avoid seeing a doctor in favour of a product is rejected outright, consistent with the health disclaimer's emphasis on professional care. We apply the same review standard to a long-standing advertising partner as to a first-time applicant, without exception for advertiser tenure.

3. Health products

Products involving supplements, medicines, devices, or health services receive additional scrutiny. Advertisers must provide lawful, accurate information and appropriate warnings. Acceptance of an advertisement does not confirm safety or suitability for an individual. For example, an advertiser promoting a dietary product must present ingredient and usage information accurately and avoid claims implying it diagnoses, treats, or prevents a specific medical condition, consistent with the restrictions described in our health disclaimer. We may request supporting documentation, such as a regulatory registration number or a summary of safety information, before accepting a health-related placement, and we reserve the right to decline without extensive justification if the material does not meet our standard. Advertisers are responsible for ensuring their product or service complies with applicable Indonesian regulation governing health-related goods and services before submitting a campaign for review. Our review of advertising material is a content and policy check, not a regulatory approval, and it does not substitute for an advertiser's own legal compliance obligations.

4. Editorial separation

Advertisers do not approve independent articles, select headlines, remove criticism, or control corrections. The editorial desk makes coverage decisions separately from commercial discussions. A commercial relationship is recorded for transparency. For example, if an advertiser requests that a specific independent article be removed or softened as a condition of continuing a sponsorship, that request is declined and the editorial lead is informed of the attempt. The journalist or writer assigned to an independent article is not told which companies currently hold advertising placements on the site, reducing any incentive, conscious or otherwise, to shape coverage around a commercial relationship. We record which advertisers are active on the site and for what general period, which allows us to review whether coverage patterns show any sign of undue commercial influence over time. This separation is a standing operating principle rather than a one-time assurance, and it applies equally to a long-term sponsor and a one-off campaign.

5. Audience protection

We do not knowingly target children with health advertising. We avoid audience segments based on inferred medical conditions, diagnoses, distress, or sensitive personal circumstances. Readers are not asked to reveal health information to receive ordinary editorial access. For example, we do not run an advertising campaign specifically targeted at readers inferred to be dealing with a particular diagnosis, such as targeting based on browsing behaviour suggesting an interest in a specific medical condition. Standard editorial content, including every article under nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, hormones, and relationships, remains freely readable without requiring a reader to submit any personal information or health data. Where any future feature were to request optional information from a reader, such as a newsletter sign-up, participation would remain voluntary and unrelated to access to core editorial content. We are mindful that health-adjacent advertising carries a higher risk of overreach, and we apply additional caution to targeting parameters in that category specifically.

6. Data and cookies

Any advertising technology must be described in the privacy and cookies policies before optional processing begins. We prefer contextual placement and limited measurement. We do not sell a reader's contact message or create an individual health profile. For example, if the site were to use an analytics or advertising measurement cookie, its purpose, typical lifespan, and the categories of information it collects would be described in the cookies policy before it became active, consistent with the consent approach described there. We favour contextual placement, meaning an advertisement is matched to the general topic of the page it appears on, such as a movement-related advertisement appearing near a movement article, rather than following an individual reader's behaviour across unrelated sites. Any aggregate measurement used to report campaign performance to an advertiser is anonymised and reported in summary form, such as total impressions for a campaign, rather than as records tied to an identifiable reader. A message submitted through our contact form is never shared with an advertiser or used to build a commercial profile of the sender.

7. Review process

Commercial material is reviewed for clarity, destination quality, lawful presentation, and consistency with these rules. A campaign can be paused or removed if a claim changes, a complaint indicates harm, or the destination no longer meets the stated standard. For example, we periodically re-check a running campaign's landing page to confirm it still matches what was originally submitted for review, since an advertiser could otherwise alter a destination page after approval without our knowledge. A reader complaint alleging that an advertisement's destination page makes a claim not present in the original approved material triggers an immediate internal re-review, and the campaign may be paused while that review is underway. We document the outcome of each review, including campaigns that were approved without changes and campaigns that required a revision before approval, for our internal accountability. Advertisers are notified promptly if a campaign is paused or removed, along with the specific reason, so the issue can be addressed before any future submission.

8. Links and destinations

An advertisement may link to a third-party site with separate terms and privacy practices. Readers should review those documents before purchasing, registering, or sharing information. Kleven is not responsible for third-party fulfilment or customer service. For example, if a reader purchases a product through an advertised link and later has a question about shipping, billing, or a return, that question should be directed to the advertiser or retailer directly, since Kleven does not process the transaction or hold the customer relationship. We review a destination page at the time a campaign is approved, but we cannot continuously monitor every change an external site might make to its own terms, pricing, or privacy practices afterward. Readers are encouraged to read a third-party site's own privacy policy and terms before providing payment or personal information there, just as they would with any other online purchase. If a reader reports a serious concern about an advertiser's destination site, such as a broken checkout or misleading pricing, we will review the active campaign and may suspend it pending the advertiser's response.

9. Corrections

If an advertisement contains a factual error, contact the editorial desk with the placement, statement, and source. We will assess whether to correct, pause, or remove it. Paid status does not reduce the need to correct a material inaccuracy. For example, if an approved advertisement's claim about a product's typical use turns out to rest on outdated information, we will require the advertiser to submit a corrected version promptly, and the placement may be paused in the meantime if the inaccuracy is significant. A correction request from a reader is logged alongside the placement details and resolved along a similar timeline to an editorial correction, generally with acknowledgement within 10 working days. We distinguish between a cosmetic inaccuracy, such as a minor wording issue, and a material one that could mislead a reader about a product's use, reserving campaign suspension for the latter category. Advertisers who repeatedly submit inaccurate material may have future campaigns subject to a stricter pre-publication review or declined altogether.

10. Complaints

Complaints may be sent through contact.php, by phone at +62 811 2783 6059, or to Jl. Thamrin No. 8, Kebon Melati, Tanah Abang, Jakarta Pusat, DKI Jakarta 10230, Indonesia. We aim to acknowledge within 10 working days. For example, a reader who noticed an advertisement they believe violates this policy can describe the placement, the page it appeared on, and the specific concern, which allows our team to locate the exact campaign quickly rather than searching broadly across active placements. We aim to provide a substantive response, beyond the initial acknowledgement, within 30 calendar days of a complete complaint, consistent with the response timelines described in our other policies for consistency across the site. A complaint alleging a serious or urgent issue, such as a potentially unsafe product claim, is prioritised ahead of a lower-urgency formatting concern. Complaints may also be submitted in Indonesian, and we will respond in the language the complaint was submitted in.

11. Conflicts

Editors and contributors disclose relevant financial interests. A conflict does not always prevent publication, but it must be assessed, managed, and disclosed where it could affect reader understanding. We do not disguise sponsored content as neutral advice. For example, a staff member with a personal financial interest in an advertiser's business, such as a family member's ownership stake, discloses that relationship before being involved in any decision about that advertiser's campaign. A disclosed conflict is assessed case by case; in some instances the relevant staff member is simply excluded from the specific review, while in others the campaign may require review by an independent member of the team to avoid any appearance of favouritism. We keep a brief internal record of disclosed conflicts and how each was managed, which is available for our own accountability rather than as a public directory. A sponsored feature always carries its label regardless of how the underlying commercial or personal relationship is structured, so the labelling requirement itself does not depend on the conflict disclosure process.

12. Revision record

This policy was first published 1 March 2026 and revised 1 October 2026 to clarify prohibited claims and audience protection. It will be reviewed by 30 September 2027 or earlier if the advertising model changes. For example, the October 2026 revision specifically clarified prohibited claim language and added more detail about how audience targeting is restricted for health-related campaigns, building on the simpler version first published in March 2026. If Kleven were to introduce a new advertising format in the future, such as a newsletter sponsorship, this policy would be updated to describe how the same labelling and review standards apply to that format before it launched. We keep the two most recent effective dates visible here so a prospective advertiser or a returning reader can quickly confirm which version of the policy currently applies. Any revision affecting how reader data is used in connection with advertising will also be reflected in the privacy and cookies policies to keep all relevant documents consistent with one another.

  • a) 1 March 2026 — initial advertising policy published.
  • b) 1 October 2026 — current revision; prohibited claims and audience protection clarified.
  • c) Next scheduled review — by 30 September 2027, or earlier if the advertising model changes.
